Description
This is a tale of determination, dedication and success. It is a narrative that illustrates how a child of a farming family from the eastern Terai region of Nepal made it to become a Doctor of Medicine against all the odds. Very few of his fellow countrymen believed in modern medicine, preferring the services of shamans, dhamis and jhankris to cure all ills. Born into caste-ridden Nepal adjacent to India, Dr Kailash Sah describes his struggle to break through taboos, caste and poverty to become the first paediatric oncologist in Nepal, before being appointed as the Assistant Director of the prestigious Kanti Children’s Hospital in Kathmandu.
His journey is an uplifting story that he hopes will inspire young people in Nepal to believe that they too can rise above many inherent obstacles.
Dr Kailash’s tough start to his career in medicine is sure to encourage all those who seek to follow in his footsteps.
